The Corpse of Viros Preview #1
Allies of Blood
Welcome back, Ashes players! Preview season is back for the first expansion in the Red Rains cycle: the Corpse of Viros! If you missed our announcement of this set, catch all the details of this monumental new set here.
This expansion comes with a mono-ceremonial preconstructed deck of all-new player cards! As this is a ceremonial deck, it would be fitting to begin with the suite of ally cards in the set, as ceremonial magic relies heavily on the ally card type to operate. Let's take a look.
Old Salt
Ally. Main, 1CC, 1B
2/3/1
Wounded 1: When this unit comes into play, place 1 wound token onto it.
Throw 1: When this unit comes into play, you may deal 1 damage to another target unit.
“Those who live grow up fast.”
Coal has brought with him his most trusty and surviving members of his crew, the Old Salt class of fighters. While once just a fresh-faced Anchornaut, an Old Salt has survived many battles and lived to tell the tale. They have the scar to prove it too, coming into play with a wound token. Many cards in this deck will interact with wound tokens, so this wound is a nice feature to have.
Phoenix Attendant
Ally. Main, 1CC, 1B
1/4/2
Alleviate 1: Side: If there are no wound tokens on this unit, move 1 wound token from your Phoenixborn onto this unit.
“Blackcloud demands naught but your life.”
The Phoenix Attendants come from Blackcloud, loyal to Brennen and the divine nature of the Phoenix. Their commitment to Phoenixborn even extends to sacrificing some of their life to sustain the Phoenixborn they honor. Use Alleviate to heal your Phoenixborn so they can live to fight another day. The Attendant is another ally that can ‘load up’ a wound token for other abilities, and its large recover 2 value means it can often come back to heal again next round.
Blood Puppeteer and Blood Puppet
Ally. Main, 1CP
Stitch: When this unit comes into play, place a Blood Puppet conjuration onto your battlefield.
[INEX: Restitch: When this unit is destroyed, you may discard a Blood Puppet you control to place a Blood Puppet conjuration onto a target opponent's battlefield.]
Jessa brings a new ally to the table capable of summoning a familiar friend. The Blood Puppeteer can serve as a double defensive blocker by summoning a Blood Puppet to your battlefield. Once the Puppeteer herself falls, cast away your Puppet to the enemy’s side to make them suffer the consequences of its curse!
